The unfortunate news is that one cannot just put Bitcoin and Ethereum in their Stocks & Shares ISA and make it taxfree. As ISAs are for assets such as stocks, bonds, and funds, to have a tax efficient way of dealing with cryptocurrencies one should use some indirect method such as crypto related ETF

this may comes as quite a surprise to many of us but direct holdings of crypto assets are not qualified for an ISA structure according to the existing regulations. One of the best ways to invest in crypto related assets would be to buy stakes in industries that are closely related to or benefit from the cryptocurrency ecosystem without directly issuing digital tokens

ISAs are designed for traditional investments and crypto is not something that fits within this idea. So while any profits you make trading inside your ISA are free of CGT, however big they are, that protection does not apply to the currency itself. It only applies to indirect products related to cryptocurrency.

There have been discussions on the possibility of allowing crypto ETNs or any other such asset in the ISA wrapper but so far that option remains closed. If you are looking for a tax free exposure then the only way out for you is to go for an alternative approach
