what car do you drive that’s £2400 a year to insure? My partner has driven for 1year and hers is £280 per year
@Mitchell BMW for a 19yrs old… Insurance high
@Krish First car should always be a banger to build no claims up. The second car should be the car you desire. I never understand why people are picky about their first cars
@Alpha_signal Its my third car
@Krish Not gonna max your ISA allowances buying cars, just buy something reliable if your goal is to be FIRE
@Alpha_signal In my defense the first car got write off by an uber at fault and i got 4k payout on a car i paid 2500 for then with that and 1k of my own money i bought a merc and then got rid of that and got a BMW for the same value, i see what you’re saying where a 1L Toyota Aygo with a black box would be the smart financial decision, these were decisions made over a year and a half ago when i only turned 18
@Krish tbf your insurance will drop massively now you’ve been insured on high insurance band. So its now a bad shout
Unfortunately you’ve got to play the long game. Stay calm, do what you enjoy as much as possible. dont cram your week full of overtime, in 10-20 years you will regret the time you gave away

I’m 19 years old, and I make £590 a week before taxes on a 37.5hour contract. Over the past month, I’ve been working 53hour weeks, which has made me £900 before taxes per week. My expenses total approximately £850, which is divided into 150 rent, 200 car insurance, 100 diesel, and the remaining amount is either food, drink, or subscriptions. All of my funds are invested in VWRP, and both my company and I contribute 10% to my pension. This last week, I worked three 8hour days and three 12hour shifts with one day off. I always feel like I’m not doing enough when I don’t work overtime or take a day off. My first objective is to reach my VWRP cap of $20,000 by April 2027. I will also create an emergency fund, which I haven’t done yet because my rent is $150 and my car insurance is only $200 per month. If I lost my job, etc., my parents would deduct the rent and pay for the car insurance in full. Other expenses are more of a luxury than a bill, so I can cancel them.
