Using Maintenance loan to invest in my ISA

1 hour ago 4 replies 9

20M going into the third and final year of uni, I never applied for a maintenance loan because I have a part-time job that covers expenses and I live at home. I was thinking, what if for the next academic year I apply for a maintenance loan (which would probably be 1.5-2.5k) and put it all into my ISA, which only consists of an All-World (FWRG). I try to invest money into my ISA every 3 months, but I have been struggling due to reduced work hours, so I was thinking maybe using the maintenance loan would be a good idea? I was wondering what you guys think

You need an emergency friend first.

Aside from that it is not necessarily a bad idea.

What’s the interest rate of the maintenance loan? And are you considering investing before building an emergency fund?

@Mullen I believe it’s 6%… Yes I currently invest before building emergency fund since other than food and public transport costs, I have no other expense

@Hay_why I personally wouldn’t borrow at 6% to invest, but each to their own… If it was intended to fill a LISA on the other hand.. :thought_balloon:
