Can you transfer crypto in and out of IG?

Both directions, as of August 2026, with one asymmetry worth knowing. IG accepts inbound crypto transfers for around 20 major tokens, including BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, LINK and AVAX, handled on the web platform. Transfers out to an external wallet or exchange went live in July 2026, desktop web first with mobile to follow: IG charges no transfer fee, the network fee is nothing in most cases, and the daily withdrawal limit is £10,000 across all assets, resetting at midnight, per IG's help pages checked 11 August 2026. So the account now works in both directions: bring coins in to consolidate, or rotate coins out to your own wallet, subject to that daily cap and a wallet-ownership verification step. This page walks through how each direction actually runs and where the practical limits sit.

Which transfers actually work on IG today?

Both directions, on the web platform rather than the app: inbound for a defined list of major tokens, and outbound to your own wallet since July 2026. That is the state of play verified against IG's pages in August 2026, and everything else on this page hangs off it.

Transfers in: live for the majors

IG supports deposits of around 20 established tokens, a list that includes BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, LINK and AVAX. Check the live list on IG's site before you plan a move, because it is expanding and no printed version stays accurate for long. The subset matters: IG's tradeable range is far wider, a list IG itself puts at more than 150 coins, so you can hold plenty of assets on IG that you cannot yet deposit from elsewhere. I have broken the whole list down in my guide to IG's crypto range.

Transfers out: live, desktop first, with a daily cap

Withdrawals to your own wallet or another exchange went live in July 2026. The mechanics, per IG's help pages checked 11 August 2026: you initiate from the Send option below the chart on the web platform (mobile is planned for a later release), each token uses a single default network applied automatically, some tokens need a destination tag or memo, and you must verify you own the destination wallet before funds are released; hosted accounts at regulated exchanges verify automatically, self-hosted wallets like MetaMask or Ledger need an active ownership check. IG charges no transfer fee and in most cases no network fee either; the daily limit is £10,000 across all assets, resetting at midnight. Two-factor authentication must be enabled, transfers typically complete in 10 to 50 minutes, and once broadcast they cannot be reversed, so the address check is on you. The cash alternative still exists: sell to pounds and withdraw free, with no daily cap.

How does an inbound transfer work, step by step?

Like any exchange deposit: pick the token, pick the network, send to the address IG generates, wait for the blockchain to confirm. The steps are familiar if you have moved crypto before; the detail below is where the mistakes live.

    Before you start

You need IG's spot crypto account open and cleared, which means the short appropriateness quiz and the 24-hour wait after approval, so this is not a same-hour job from a standing start. Transfers are handled on the desktop web platform, so log in there rather than hunting through the app. And remember the account rules the coins arrive into: spot only, no leverage, and cryptoassets are not covered by the FSCS on any platform.

    The transfer itself

Select the token you want to deposit and the network you will send it over, and IG generates a deposit address for that token. The network choice is the step that destroys funds when rushed: the network you send on must match the network IG's address expects, and where a token uses a destination tag or memo, that must travel with the payment too. Copy the address rather than typing it, send a small test amount first if the sums are meaningful, and expect the deposit to show once the network has produced enough confirmations, minutes on faster chains, potentially an hour on Bitcoin. The network fee is set by the blockchain and paid on the sending side, not by IG. Like any FCA-registered cryptoasset business, IG can also ask about the source of inbound coins, so transfers from a wallet or exchange account in your own name keep things clean.

What the timing actually looks like

IG's own guidance, checked 11 August 2026, is that transfers typically complete within 10 to 50 minutes, with anything longer usually down to congestion on the blockchain itself rather than IG's processing. The deposit shows as pending on the web platform once the network first sees it, then credits as tradeable balance after the required confirmations. The only cost on an inbound transfer is the sending side's network fee, set by the wallet or exchange you are sending from; IG charges nothing to receive.

What happens once the coins land

Transferred coins sit in the same crypto account as anything you buy on the platform, in your beneficial ownership, held with IG's custody partner. From there you can sell to pounds at any time or swap into other listed coins, and the normal dealing fees apply from that point on: 0% commission plus a 0.07% external exchange fee on Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana, a flat 1.49% on everything else. Nothing about arriving by transfer changes the pricing, so a holding you consolidated from an old exchange trades on exactly the same terms as one bought fresh with a bank card.

Why does the missing withdrawal side matter?

Because it decides who should move coins to IG now and who should wait. Once a token is on IG, it stays on IG until withdrawals launch: you can sell it back to pounds at any time and withdraw the cash for free, but you cannot send the coins themselves to a hardware wallet, another exchange or anyone else.

For a buy-and-hold investor consolidating crypto alongside other investments, that is a modest constraint. The coins sit in your beneficial ownership with IG's institutional custody partner, named on IG's pages as Coinbase Prime, and the exit to cash always works. For a self-custody person, someone who rotates holdings to cold storage on principle, it is currently disqualifying, and no fee schedule changes that. The honest framing is that inbound transfers made IG a destination; only outbound transfers will make it a waypoint.

Should you move your coins to IG?

If you want your crypto held with a regulated broker alongside your other investments, and you are comfortable that the exit is cash rather than coins for now, yes, the inbound rails work and the process above took me minutes. If your model of ownership ends in your own wallet, wait for withdrawals to go live before committing anything you would want back on-chain. Either way, buying on the platform is often simpler than transferring at all for new money, and my walkthrough of buying Bitcoin on IG covers that route, with the costs dissected in my IG crypto fees breakdown.

    FAQs

Can I withdraw crypto from IG to my own wallet?

Yes, since July 2026. Transfers out run from the desktop web platform with no IG fee, usually no network fee, and a £10,000 daily limit across all assets that resets at midnight. You need two-factor authentication enabled and to verify ownership of the destination wallet. Mobile support is planned; until then the alternative exit remains selling to pounds and withdrawing cash free of charge.

Which coins can I transfer into IG?

Around 20 major tokens as of August 2026, including BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, LINK and AVAX. The list is narrower than IG's full tradeable range and it changes, so confirm your specific token on IG's live list before sending anything.

Does IG charge for crypto transfers in?

The cost you will definitely pay is the blockchain network fee on the sending side, which is set by the network, not IG. Confirm the current fee position on IG's help pages before a large transfer, and remember the dealing fees only apply when you trade, not when you deposit coins.

How long does a crypto transfer to IG take?

Mostly it is blockchain time: minutes on faster networks such as Ethereum or Solana, up to an hour or so for Bitcoin once enough confirmations accumulate. My own timed ETH transfer went from send to tradeable in under twenty minutes. First deposits can attract extra source-of-funds checks, which add time.

Is crypto held at IG protected if something goes wrong?

The coins are held in your beneficial interest with IG's institutional custody partner, and IG is FCA-authorised and on the FCA's cryptoasset register. But cryptoassets sit outside FSCS compensation on every platform, and no custodian protects you from the price falling. Regulated firm, unprotected asset: hold both ideas at once.
